Abstract

Background. The modern period of Russian history is characterized by the growth of external calls to the Russian state, bearing a direct or indirect threat to its national security, socio-economic and socio-political stability. In this regard, the aim of the work is to analyze their impact on the stability of regional societies by the
example of the Republic of Mordovia.
Materials and methods. The research tasks were implemented through the analysis of the mass media of the Republic of Mordovia and research materials. The main method of the study was the comparative-historical, which allows to summarize complex and often internally contradictory processes taking place in the Russian Federation in the first half of the 2010s.
Results. On the basis of the materials of the Republic of Mordovia the author analyzed the influence of the geopolitical challenges of the modern Russian state in the ethno-political and confessional situation in some of its regions. One can witness a dangerous tendency to “increase the degree of tension”, even in a stable and peaceful regions of Russia under the influence of destructive factors, such as the conflict in the Donbass and the spread of radical Salafiyya.
Conclusions. The current conflict-free model of social development, which has formed during the last two and a half decades in the Republic of Mordovia, despite the growth of external calls in recent years, has stood the test, and is a valuable experience for other regions of Russia.

Key words

external calls, the Republic of Mordovia, ethno-political and religious situation of armed conflict in the south-east of Ukraine, refugees, religious radicalism, terrorism, Salafiyya.
